Interesting story.
I was reading a story on signonsandiego.com about a man who was a prisoner of war at a university in th manila. He told the story of the time he was only 8 years old when the japanese took him and many others prisoner. He went on to say how a few hundred calvery soldiers rescused them after three long years of being held by the japanese. My dad was one of those soldiers. I remember him telling me that he was behind the first tank as it pulled up to the entrance. After all hell broke loose and the fighting was over he said they picked him up over their heads and took his rifle and carried them around. He said at first he was taken by surprise when it happened and was more worried about were his gun went. He told us about how skinny these people were and was surprised that they had enough strength to pick him up. He said the thing he remembered the most was a little girl asked him if he had an ice cream cone. He said he hadn't seen ice cream in two years. He gave her his last candy bar. I'm going to try and get ahold of this man and talk to him about my dad. I just wanted to share this with all of you.
